Female Accordionist and an Olympic Runner

The accordionist on the left, with her cylindrical arm and a bowl like breast, looks up as if she is singing. Her face resembling that of African tribal mask. At the top right is a runner, humorously running though the track. This work was initiated in 1928, and completed in 1932, years corresponding to Amsterdam and Los Angeles Olympic Games. The overall structure comprises of the golden ratio, perhaps the reason why this work retains a sense of order despite its complexity. Two lines, a horizontal at the accordion and the vertical to the left of the runner, divide the frame into four sections. Further lines in the composition generate even more segments of the golden ratio.
